    We have received input from Zisis Kozlakidis of the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Cancer and Jiaao Yu from Shanghai Jiao Tong University regarding the impact of lung cancer in Southeast Asia and China, as well as the necessary focus areas for therapies and interventions. The authors stress the need for increased allocation of resources to support ongoing research and to address the substantial overall burden of lung cancer.

    ICT research and development

    Tackling the water crises

    Further in, Rithima Warrier from Frost & Sullivan discusses UN strategies that emphasise innovation, particularly in tackling water crises resulting from climate change. One interesting point to note is that global water consumption has been consistently increasing by about 1% per year since the 1980s. Additionally, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change projects that the Arctic sea cover is likely to melt at least once before 2050 altogether.

    Novel treatments for cardiac ailments

    In one of our research profiles, we hear from Yoshinori Yoshida, Associate Professor at the Center for iPS Cell Research and Application at Kyoto University. Due to restrictions on animal testing, human tissues derived from induced pluripotent stem cells offer a promising platform for discovering novel treatments for cardiac ailments.
