FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering; University of Alberta (Adjunct),

Dr. Jeffrey M. Farner is an Assistant Professor at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering (Tallahassee, Florida, USA) in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He holds an adjunct faculty position at the University of Alberta

His research interests center on improving and maintaining water quality. Current work is focused on understanding the reactivity, fate and transport, and implications of emerging particulate contaminants such as engineered nanomaterials and micro- and nanoplastics through investigation of the physical and chemical interactions of these particles in the natural environment. His ongoing research studying the role of aggregation and surface interactions includes plastic weathering to better understand the unintended consequences of consumer products and the potential for removal in water treatment and remediation processes.

Dr. Farner received his B.S. in Chemistry from Purdue University, after which he performed environmental water monitoring and analytical chemistry for the state of Iowa’s public health laboratory. Following his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Duke University, he completed a PDF at McGill University.
