A native of Kadogawa, Miyazaki and graduate of Seijo University, Eto was elected for the first time in 2003, succeeding his father, a former government minister, Takami Eto
In December 2014 he was elected to the HR (47th General Election), then in October 2017 he was elected to the HR (48th General Election). In November 2017- October 2018, he became Chairman of the Special Committee on North Korean Abductions and Other Issues, HR. Finally, before taking the position as agriculture Minister, he was a Special Advisor to the Prime Minister from October 2018-September 2019.
