We could be about to see the world’s first truly non-invasive, real-time, continuous wearable glucose monitor change the lives of those with diabetes forever
Afon Technology, a small Welsh-based med-tech startup, is working to develop Glucowear®, the world’s first truly non-invasive, real-time, continuous wearable glucose monitor.
The team, headed up by founder Dr Sabih Chaudhry are edging closer to transforming the lives of those living with diabetes around the world with their wearable wristwatch sensor technology which is completely needle and pain-free.

A needle-free wearable glucose monitor
Afon’s needle-free technology has gone through several clinical trials, including an ongoing trial at the Joint Clinical Research Facility based in Swansea. This preliminary clinical research has delivered very promising and exciting results.
The team are working hard to prepare the device for CE & UKCA marking and get it into the hands of those desperately waiting for a non-invasive blood glucose monitoring solution. Glucowear® will be a global game changer, not only for diabetics but for the many who enjoy monitoring and tracking their own health data.

Allowing diabetics and pre-diabetics to manage their own condition and health
The NHS currently spends around £10 billion a year on diabetes. Afon truly believes that their device will enable diabetics and pre-diabetics to better manage their own condition and health, improving quality of life and resulting in a reduction in the long-term complications associated with poorly controlled diabetes such as heart disease, strokes and chronic kidney disease to name a few.
Dr Sabih Chaudhry, along with Dr John Shillingford, Afon’s Regulatory and Clinical Director, will be at the American Diabetes Association’s 83rd Scientific Sessions in San Diego, exhibiting Glucowear® from 23rd to 26th June 2023. This will be a fantastic opportunity to showcase Glucowear® to key opinion leaders, experts, clinicians and healthcare providers within the diabetic community.
