I am currently head of the glaucoma clinic at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Hôpital universitaire de Bruxelles (HUB), CUB Hôpital Erasme, Bruxelles, Belgium.
I graduated as a doctor in 1992 and as ophthalmologist in 1997 from Université Libre de Bruxelles.
In my daily activity, my involvement in glaucoma, this leading cause of irreversible blindness led me to take an interest in its masquerades, particularly the complications of myopia.
Indeed, a number of cases that at first glance suggest glaucoma have turned out to reflect complications of myopia or an overlap of the two entities. Diagnosis of glaucoma in myopic eyes is challenging.
Thus, my clinical research on Peripapillary Intrachoroidal Cavitation, a myopic complication formed the basis of my doctoral thesis entitled “Optical Coherence Tomography analysis of Peripapillary Intrachoroidal Cavitation. Clinical implications for highly myopic eyes, which I defended in March 2024.
I am the author of several publications including in Peripapillary Intrachoroidal Cavitation.
Regarding my academic commitment, I am a member of the «commission d’agrément en ophtalmologie, Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles». I am an examiner at the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO) and chair of glaucoma course at Université Libre de Bruxelles.
I am a regular invited speaker, and reviewer for several ophthalmological journals.
I am a member several ophthalmological societies and a board member of the Belgian Glaucoma Society.
My Current research interest remains myopia and its biomechanical consequences at the level of the optic nerve head.
