Professor Aoife Foley is Chair in Net Zero in the School of Engineering at The University of Manchester and Professor of Energy Systems Engineering in Queen’s University Belfast.
She is also Editor in Chief of Elsevier’s Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews, the leading global journal in the world in the field of sustainable energy in Google Scholar. Professor Foley is an internationally recognised leader in energy related matters. She worked in the private and public sector for nearly fifteen years prior to returning joining academia full time. She’s held visiting roles at Trinity College Dublin and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Professor Foley’s research focuses on energy systems analysis to optimise ‘techno-enviroeconomic’ performance.
Her specific research expertise covers renewable forecasting and integration, transport and energy market modelling, demand response using smart technology, energy storage, and electric vehicles. She is also very interested in smart cities, and sustainable transport systems. A key theme in her research is the interlinking of the 4 E’s of environmental protection, social equity and economics and energy security.
