Barb MacQuarrie is the Community Director of the Centre for Research & Education on Violence against Women & Children at Western University
She conducts research and develops evidence-based education and prevention initiatives involving both community-based and university-based partners. She collaborates with researchers, advocates, labour organisations and employers from North America, South America, Europe, Australia, and Africa to continue developing new approaches to addressing gendered violence at work. In 2014, working in collaboration with the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), she coordinated the first Canadian national study on the impacts of domestic violence on the workplace.
In April 2022, CREVAWC and the CLC again collaborated to conduct a national survey on harassment and violence in Canadian workplaces. Since 2019, she and Dr. Adriana Berlingieri have worked with FETCO and the CLC to develop training and resources on workplace harassment and violence for federally regulated employers in the transportation and communication sectors. Barb is a recipient of the Order of Ontario, the province’s highest official honour, recognising individual excellence.
