His research areas are heavily centred around natural hazard prevention and mitigation (e.g., seismic hazard assessment, site response analysis). He earned his BSc and MSc degrees in Civil Engineering at Hanyang University in Korea and his PhD focused on computational geomechanics and geotechnical earthquake engineering at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in U.S.
