    Fabio Pavanello

    Researcher – NEUROPULS Coordinator
    CNRS/CROMA Laboratory (France)

Fabio Pavanello is a CNRS researcher at the CROMA laboratory located in Grenoble (France) with more than 10 years of experience in integrated optics. He holds an MSc from the Polytechnic of Turin (Italy) and a Ph.D. from the University of Lille (France).

As a research associate at the University of Colorado Boulder (USA), he was involved in the DARPA project POEM where, in collaboration with MIT, Berkeley, IBM and CNSE, he contributed to the first optical link between a processor and a memory chips realized in a “zero change” 45nm SOI CMOS process and led the demonstration of the first high-speed optical transceivers in a modified 65nm bulk CMOS platform.

As a researcher in Ghent University and IMEC, he contributed to the development of an SOI mid-IR platform for sensing and spectroscopy applications, and demonstrated highly broadband integrated spectrometers with state-of-the-art wavelength accuracy.

His research interests are in hardware security, neuromorphic computing, and communications. He coordinates the Horizon Europe NEUROPULS project which aims to develop a secure, energy-efficient, RISC-V-interfaced neuromorphic photonic accelerator.

He has co-authored more than 90 journal and conference papers and has 1 patent granted. He serves on the editorial board of Optics and on technical committees of key conferences in the field of optics and computing as well as a reviewer for the main journals in these fields.
