My doctoral research focused on cellular electrophysiology of heart cells and control of the heart by the autonomic nervous system
Postdoctoral research led to elucidation of the the calcium pump of the human red blood cell membrane (now designated as PMCA1). My academic career investigated the calcium pump and regulation of intracellular calcium. Various studies described calcium pump activation by calmodulin, inhibition by certain drugs, inactivation by free radicals, and abnormalities possibly associated with certain diseases. My current interest is to further document and increase public awareness of the dangers of mixing alcohol and certain drugs with water-related activities.
