Prof. Giovanni Brandi is Associate Professor in Medical Oncology at the University of Bologna (UNIBO, Italy) and head of the “Hepato-biliary and pancreatic tumors” Program at IRCSS, Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria of Bologna (Italy)
He carries out his research in the field of gastrointestinal cancers, with a main focus on the molecular mechanisms of carcinogenesis, the exploration of new potential treatments and the identification of prognostic and predictive factors of response to chemotherapy and targeted therapies in hepato-bilio-pancreatic tumors.
He is carrying on a study on cholangiocarcinoma patients aimed at identify by next generation sequencing analysis the molecular pathways involved in the carcinogenesis of biliary tract tumors and possible tissue/circulating biomarkers of exposure to various risk factors (including asbestos).
He is member of the European Network for the Study of Cholangiocarcinoma (ENSCCA) and founder/president of GICO (Italian Group of Cholangiocarcinoma) and APIC (Italian Association of Cholangiocarcinoma Patients). Engaged in several national and international research projects, he collaborates with various European and non-European institutes and is author of over 250 full paper in indexed scientific international peer-reviewed journals.
