KARLA MCMANUS is an Associate Professor in the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Regina. She is an art historian who specializes in the study of photography and the environmental imaginary. Her recent projects include an exploration of how the history of bird photography has contributed to ecological knowledge and the Prairie Art Network, an arts community-building project to promote and develop networks across the Canadian prairies. Both projects were supported by funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Council of Canada. Karla is co-editor of “The Slide Lecture” a special issue of the History of Photography (2023). Her research can be found in Les Cahiers de ARIP, Journal of Canadian Art History, Imaginations: Journal of Cross-Cultural Image Studies and Captures. Figures, théories et pratiques de l’imaginaire, as well as numerous edited collections and exhibition catalogues. She is a Member of the Gail and Stephen A. Jarislowsky Institute for Studies in Canadian Art at Concordia University as well as an Affiliate Member of the Documentary Research Centre at Toronto Metropolitan University.
