Linda Gröning is a Professor of Law at the University of Bergen, Norway. Gröning’s main area of legal expertise is icriminal law and criminal justice, and she is considered a leading experts on issues regarding criminalaccountability, responsibility and punishment
Gröning is currently focusing her research on how criminal unaccountability is is related to notions of mental disorders and disability. This research includes how offenders with mental disorders and disabilities are treated within legal, mental health and forensic systems. A special focus is on legal and forensic assessments of child offenders, and how concern for social safety should be integrated with protection of children’s rights.
Gröning works with researchers from several diciplines and many countries, and have a special interest in comparative and interdiciplinary research, as well as in combining conceptual and empirical explorations. She is leading the research projects DIMENSIONS and CHILDCRIM, and is head of the Research group for Criminal Justice and Mental Health. Gröning is also the Chair of the Norwegian Criminal Law Commission.
