Dr Millie Nakatsuka gained her medical degree from Bond University in 2013 and a Master of Medicine (Ophthalmic Science) from The University of Sydney in 2021. She developed an abiding interest in neuro-ophthalmic emergencies, eye movement and cognitive function abnormalities in schizophrenia, and the potential ocular complications of medications.
Dr Nakatsuka has subsequently worked for multiple health services across four states in Australia, including in eight correctional centres and three forensic hospitals, gaining valuable experience in emergency medicine, general medicine, and psychiatry. She is currently studying towards a Master of Public Health at The University of Sydney, and is an academic at The University of Queensland, with a current focus on health inequity in regional rural hospitals and justice health.
