Paige Lacy is a Professor of Medicine and former Alberta Respiratory Centre (ARC) Research Director at the University of Alberta. She obtained her PhD from Wellington School of Medicine in 1992 after completing her BSc (Hons) in Physiology and Biochemistry in Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand in 1986. As a postdoctoral fellow, she received awards from the Wellcome Trust/Health Research Council of NZ and the Parker B. Francis Foundation. Since becoming a faculty member at the University of Alberta in 2000, Dr. Lacy has received continuous support for her research projects from CIHR, NSERC, CFI, AstraZeneca, Synergy Respiratory Care, and others.
Dr. Lacy’s areas of research interest are focused on molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate inflammatory responses in allergy, asthma, and lung diseases. Together with her group, she has advanced our understanding of how inflammatory mediators, including cytokines, are released by immune cells including epithelial cells, eosinophils, neutrophils, macrophages, and mast cells. She has also focused on occupational exposure to inhaled hazardous materials and wildfire smoke exposure in first responders.
Along with 129 publications in peer-reviewed journals, books, and other published materials, Dr. Lacy is a member of the Collegium Internationale Allergologicum, the European Respiratory Society and the American Thoracic Society. She was a recipient of a 2019 Michelle Harkness Mentorship Award from AllerGen NCE, Canada.
