Dr. Wessells received his PhD in Molecular Genetics from the Ohio State University, then did postdoctoral fellowships at University of Michigan and the Sanford Burnham Presbys Institute for Discovery.
Since starting his own lab, he has developed methods for sutdying endurance exercise in fruit flies, identifiying several single-molecule components of exercise that can mimic effects of exercise training in sedentary animals. A major focus of his lab’s research has been understanding the action of neurons in the brain in coordinating adaptations in peripheral tissues such as muscle and adipose tissue.
