Cumbria Council opens grants for community waste prevention

Cumbria County Council has launched a waste prevention fund to help reduce the amount of household waste in Eden…

A new grant aimed at reducing household waste has been launched by Cumbria County Council.

The community waste prevention fund supports projects that seek to prevent waste while improving the quality of life for local people through community-based projects.

Applications must be received by 30 September 2016 and projects are invited to apply for grants between £500 and £3,000. The fund total stands at £8,300.

The fund aims to reduce the amount of waste produced in Eden. This will be achieved by encouraging behaviours that reduce, reuse, or recycle waste; encouraging better management of waste; and by enabling residents and communities to get involved in environmental and waste-related initiatives.

Both new projects and existing ones can apply for the fund, and the county council is seeking applications that demonstrate social value, positive behavioural change, and lead to the maximisation of household income.

The county council said it would not fund projects that duplicate or have conflict with existing services provided by Cumbrian waste collection.
