The Five Eyes intelligence partnership, which includes Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, and the US, has officially launched Secure Innovation

Members of the Five Eyes intelligence partnership have launched Secure Innovation, which shares security guidance to help protect emerging technology companies from various threats, particularly those from nation-state actors.

The long-term plan is to guide emerging technology companies, allowing them to defend against a range of national security threats, particularly from nation-state actors.

Protecting technology companies

The launch follows on from a summit last October, which included heads of domestic security and intelligence agencies from the Five Eyes nations.

During this summit, they introduced the Five Shared Principles designed to protect technology companies. Secure Innovation expands on these principles, transitioning from a UK-centric initiative by the National Cyber Security Centre and National Protective Security Authority to a comprehensive framework available across all Five Eyes countries.

Now, tech firms in the UK and other places can access personal regional versions of the Secure Innovation guidance, along with resources specifically designed to help them assess their security stance. Over 500 UK companies have already taken advantage of the opportunity to create customised action plans that allow them to identify vulnerabilities and implement necessary security measures.

Addressing security challenges

Secure Innovation offers a range of cost-effective strategies that companies can implement right from the start, making sure they can protect their innovative ideas, reputation, and future success.

This shows a joint effort between the Five Eyes nations in addressing common security challenges. By providing consistent and consolidated advice, Secure Innovation helps companies navigate the complexity of national security in a highly interconnected environment.

Businesses across Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, and the US now have access to a lot of Secure Innovation resources, guidance, and products. This approach reflects the growing recognition of the tech sector’s vulnerabilities and the critical need for extensive security measures.

As technology companies continue to innovate, protecting their intellectual property and operational integrity becomes increasingly important. The launch of Secure Innovation marks a key step towards strengthening the tech sector against national security threats and empowering businesses to thrive in a safer environment.
