The UK Government’s G-Cloud framework, G-Cloud-14, is now live and will continue to offer opportunities for cloud service providers to supply their solutions to a wide range of public sector organisations

Launched on 29 October 2024, G-Cloud 14 replaces the previous G-Cloud 13 and will run until 28 April 2026. It acts as a streamlined, digital marketplace where public sector bodies can easily access a range of cloud services, from hosting to software to support.

Now that G-Cloud 14 is live, thousands of small businesses can supply cloud-based computing services to the public sector.

G-Cloud 14 will provide public sector organisations with easy access to a wide range of cloud services, 90% of which are offered by SMEs. This agreement introduces financial stability checks for suppliers and has already delivered significant savings, averaging £192 million per year, to the public sector.

What is G-Cloud?

The G-Cloud framework is a cloud-based procurement system that allows government entities, charities, healthcare, local authorities, and other public sector organisations to find and purchase cloud services through an online catalogue.

The services offered are pay-as-you-go and designed to help organisations improve efficiency, reduce costs, and modernise operations. With G-Cloud 14, suppliers can offer services across three key categories: Cloud Hosting, Cloud Software, and Cloud Support.

Cloud Hosting: Infrastructure and data solutions

Cloud Hosting services, covered under Lot 1, allow public sector bodies to access the necessary infrastructure to store data, run software, and manage networks. Whether it’s a content delivery network, a relational database, or disaster recovery solutions, Cloud Hosting ensures that organisations can deploy, manage, and scale their IT infrastructure securely and efficiently. This category includes critical services such as:

  • Compute and application hosting
  • Container services
  • Data storage (block and object storage)
  • Networking solutions like DDoS protection and load balancing

Cloud software

Lot 2 focuses on Cloud Software, providing ready-to-use applications hosted in the cloud, which can be accessed over the internet. These applications range from customer relationship management (CRM) tools to business intelligence analytics, project management software, and even specialised services for education or healthcare. Cloud Software helps organisations stay agile and responsive without the need for complex, on-premise IT infrastructure.

Cloud Support: Expert help to manage cloud solutions

To ensure smooth implementation and operation, Lot 3 offers Cloud Support services. These services provide expert assistance in setting up, maintaining, and optimising cloud-hosted solutions. Whether it’s helping with system migration or providing ongoing management and troubleshooting, Cloud Support ensures that organisations get the most out of their cloud investments.
