To meet the UK’s net zero target and scale up the rollout of low carbon heating solutions, such as heat pumps, a strong, collaborative partnership between Government and industry is essential

UK domestic and commercial market leader Ideal Heating has embarked on a £60m transformation as it leads the way to a green future.

Mark Derbyshire, Managing Director (Domestic Products) UK, Republic of Ireland and North America at Ideal Heating’s parent company Groupe Atlantic, sets out the company’s commitment to renewable technologies.

We’re no strangers to milestones at Ideal Heating:

From the four millionth Logic boiler rolling off our production lines in 2022 to celebrating 100 years at the forefront of the UK heating industry in 2006, we have a long and proud history of heating homes and businesses.

Recently we celebrated another major landmark when Energy Minister Lord Callanan visited our headquarters site in Hull to mark our start of heat pump production in the UK.

Our new heat pump production facility is at the heart of a £60m investment programme focused on low carbon heating solutions.

From production and expanded distribution capabilities to an industry-leading training centre and an upcoming £12.5m R&D facility, we’ve begun an exciting new chapter for the business.

Changing the way homes are heated

We’ve been here before … the drive to low carbon heating solutions is the second major energy transition in our 117-year history after we moved from coal to gas-fired boilers in the 1930s.

Fortunately, we have over a century of expertise and experience in the UK heating industry to help us along the way. Our products have kept homes warm for generations and now we’re helping our customers embark on their own low carbon journey.

It’s clear that to decarbonise UK housing stock, renewable technologies such as air source heat pumps will form a key part of the equation.

Whether you’re an installer looking to gain the skills to fit, service and maintain heat pumps, or a housing provider committed to the low carbon transition, we’ve got you covered.

We’ve invested more than £2m in a National Training and Technology Centre in East Yorkshire, where up to 5,000 installers every year will learn the skills needed to become low carbon heating engineers. This is the centrepiece of a UK-wide network of training facilities.

Our Expert Academy training team guides installers through every step of the process, ensuring they leave our training centres fully equipped to meet their customers’ needs.

For new-build and social housing providers, we recently unveiled an exciting new addition to the Ideal Heating family.

We call it Logic Air.

Efficient, reliable and sustainable. It’s totally logical!

If you’re familiar with the Ideal Heating brand, the chances are you’ve come across our Logic range of products.

From the Logic Max Combi Boiler to our Logic Max System Boiler, the Logic name has been a staple of our heating portfolio for many years.

It seemed only right, then, that our new monobloc heat pump adopted the same famous name.

Logic Air is designed to deliver reliable, efficient low carbon heating to homes. It’s quiet to run – so quiet, in fact, that it was recently awarded prestigious Quiet Mark status – and easy to both install and use.

Tailored for the UK market, Logic Air will deliver the same impressive performance whether it’s sunny, raining, snowing or icy cold.

Welcoming the Energy Minister

We were delighted to welcome Lord Callanan, Minister for Energy Efficiency and Green Finance, to our Hull site recently to showcase the investments we’re making in low carbon technologies.

We gave the Minister a tour of our facilities, including our new production line.

He was also shown the site of our £12.5m UK Technology Centre, where our specialist R&D team will develop new innovations in heat pumps. Plans for the centre were recently approved, and we expect construction of the facility to begin later this year.

To complete his visit, Lord Callanan called in at our National Training and Technology Centre, where he was given a tour of our industry-leading facility whilst speaking to installers about their journey to become low carbon engineers and cut the ribbon to officially open the new centre.

We’re so much more than boilers

Since 1906, the name Ideal Heating has been synonymous with boilers. It’s what made us the UK market leader and the major employer we are today.

But now we’re using our decades of expertise at the forefront of the UK heating industry to push forward with green technologies.

Join us on a low carbon journey!
