Open-source software solutions: Placecube Limited

Placecube Limited is a software and data, development and services business. We specialise in open-source software solutions, and open data and standards. We make it simpler for organisations  to create digital services, integrate systems and personalise user experiences.

‘Place’ represents place-based initiatives, and ‘Cube’ reflects our modular approach to building products that can be reused by other clients, so that the public sector never pays twice for the same development.

Placecube is best known for supporting the UK public sector with its Digital Place products, through Software as a Service (SaaS) or Platform as a Service (PaaS). Through our open knowledge management and collaboration platform. And for providing data benchmarking and analytics tools to the majority of English local authorities through our subsidiary business, Porism.

We partner with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Liferay and OpenText.

Liferay recognised Placecube as its worldwide innovation partner (2021-22). Specifically for our work extending Liferay DXP’s low code capability and the development of a Customer Contact Management module (aka Customer Relationship Management (CRM)).

Clients include the Cabinet Office, the Local Government Association, the Improvement Service (Scotland), and the Police Digital Service. Additionally, as part of Placecube’s social value commitment, we provide a free-to-use platform Knowledge Hub. • Digital Place for Local Public Services – is an open digital experience platform. The product is used by local authorities as part of their wider transformation agenda and rethinking how services are delivered. The product features have been co-developed with councils and, once built, are released to all subscribing clients at no additional fee. Recent developments have included Case Management and Customer Contact Management (aka CRM), which add to the Content Management (websites), MyAccount, Forms and workflows engines, and the many online local services and integrations with a line of business applications that constitute the product.
  • Digital Place for Connected Data – Our subsidiary business, Porism, is a software development and consultancy company specialising in open data services and standards. It supports the Local Government Association in providing data benchmarking tools to the association’s local authority members through the LG Inform and LG Inform Plus products.

Organisations can create local directories and make it easier for service providers and volunteers to submit and maintain their records online in one place. Customers include North Tyneside Council, and the Lancashire & South Cumbrian Health partnership, where once collected, standardised, and assured, is called on by other 3rd party applications as the trusted data source.
