UK ministers from the Scotland Office and Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs strengthen Scottish agriculture business during Royal Highland Show
This will prioritise economic growth and innovation for Scotland, according to the UK government.
Scottish Secretary Alister Jack and Secretary of State for Food & Farming Thérèse Coffey attended the event and hosted a reception with the Scotch Whisky Association.
Scottish Secretary Alister Jack welcomed the collaboration: “The Royal Highland Show – Scotland’s biggest outdoor event and among Europe’s largest agribusiness shows – is rightly for many one of the highlights of the calendar.”
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to have discussions with key players from the various sectors who make such a huge contribution to our everyday lives and help grow the UK economy.
“It’s also a chance for showgoers to find out more about how the UK Government is delivering for Scotland and to meet the UK military and thank them for their selfless service” he added.
Showcasing UK government-funded projects in Scotland
The UK Government marquee at the event offered visitors the opportunity to learn about departments and agencies delivering for Scotland through interactive displays.
The marquee showcased exhibits from various UK Government funded projects, including a burrowing robot that enhances crop storage efficiency – a new innovation for sustainable farming in Scotland.
These innovations position the UK as a leader in the agricultural industry.
Success at the 2022 Scottish agribusiness show
The show drew in nearly 190,000 attendees, contributing nearly £39.5 million to the economy in 2022, according to sources.
Last year, among the notable exhibits was the MiRo-E research and educational robot showcased by the National Robotarium, which received funding of £21 million from the UK Government.
The Robotarium announced a partnership with the James Hutton Institute, aiming to assist farmers in minimizing herbicide usage and promoting the cultivation of robust crops for food security.

The event featured a range of intriguing exhibits, including innovative robots for grain-surfing and crop assistance.
Various organisations showcased their contributions, and the UK Government marquee hosted departments such as the Department for Work & Pensions, HM Revenue & Customs, and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, providing information and support on topics including support packages, business advice, taxation, and digital infrastructure.
