Celebrating 50 Years of joint amphibious force
The historic occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Joint Amphibious Force was the backdrop for the signing of a significant agreement between the UK and the Netherlands.
This milestone prompted Defence Ministers James Cartlidge and Kajsa Ollongren to affirm their commitment to future cooperation within the force.
The event was commemorated aboard the Royal Navy’s amphibious flagship, HMS Albion, in Den Helder.
UK and Netherlands: Deepening cooperation
The signed Statement of Intent signifies a deepened partnership between the UK and the Netherlands.
The two nations have pledged to collaborate on amphibious exercises and training, while also exploring the potential for joint procurement of future littoral strike capabilities.
The upcoming UK Multi Role Support Ships (MRSS) and Dutch Landing Platform will be crucial in enabling rapid deployment of highly-trained Marines, fully equipped with vehicles, boats, aircraft, and weaponry.
Minister for Defence Procurement, James Cartlidge, expressed the importance of timely equipment acquisition for the Armed Forces, ensuring global military preparedness.
He emphasised the value of working closely with Dutch allies to assess future procurement options, building upon their 50-year partnership and enhancing collective readiness.

The revitalised Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the UK and the Netherlands represents an effort to strengthen the relationship between their navies and marine forces.
